Thanks for keeping this subject alive! Not a programmer as such, but really liked the Win 3.1 footprint and have always felt that the newer versions were overly bloated. Still have most of my 3.1 software including a copy of ClarisWorks. Am playing with 3.1 on a Pentium 2 233 mhz machine...It's quick smiley

So apparently, an older version of Liberty BASIC runs on windows 3.x. It costs money, and you might be able to ask for a key to the older versions if you own the new one. Or just use the never ending trial. smiley

I use the new version of LB for fun projects, but you could easily use it for making win 3.x apps.

thanks for the refrence
2.02 seems to work
the demo has a size limit
some of the samples and Breakout seem to be working
I'll add it to my list of interpreters

it apears to be a smalltalk app
looks like it would be ok

if you are using it for non profit dev
they might ease up on an older ver
did you ask?

wat say?

I haven't asked. But emailing the author wouldn't hurt. I don't have a 3.1 system, so I wouldn't do it... rolleyes

I inquired for you about a win32s version
sorry looks like your out of luck there

you could use xblite as it can create win32s apps
"xblite.com"
or perhaps gfa basic

for those not to good at picking up languages
perhaps sort of a rosetta stone is needed
or perhaps a form designer

example

what would you say?

Hi, I am interested in porting some stuff back to Windows 3.1.

I already know how to program in C/C++ and use the Win32 API, I also own an Old Charles Petzold Book for Windows 3.1 to learn from as well.

My question is, does anyone know where I could find a compiler to compile code on Windows 3.1 with? I prefer C++, but I do know, and have Visual Basic 4/5/6 (4 which also works on Win 3.1 wink).

So if anyone can point me in the right direction of getting Visual C/C++ or a compiler compatible with Windows 3.1, I'd be happy to port/write things for Windows 3.1.

if you are creating a new win3x port of a program
then you dont have to worry so much about the compiler

however...
steping a program backwords to windows 3.1 is usually a bit difficult
you might need all of the previous steps of the programs
source code and the compilers that they require

what compilers do you need?

for a free C/C++ compiler open watcom might be nice
http://win31.no-ip.org/freeware/openwat.exe

did you take a look at oofd?
